Chapter One of Tehillim: Giving ourselves to Hashem

The first chapter of Tehillim is the most important. Unlike most other tehillim, it isn’t devotional; it’s instructional. It teaches us how to give not only our words but ourselves to Hashem. This is the ultimate gift.

When a 4-year-old receives a present, she is very happy. She doesn’t care whom it came from. When a 12-year-old receives one, she’s grateful not only for the gift but for the giver, and she feels bonded with him.
